I started my career directly out of university as a foreign exchange and precious metal trader in Toronto. Less than a year into that job, at the age of 24, I was given the opportunity to become head of Trading and Operations in Hong Kong of the then world leading foreign exchange and precious metal retailer, Deak International. The fast-paced world of finance in Hong Kong presented many great opportunities and experiences for me. While running Deak International’s Asian operations for five very successful years, I also wrote the banking review for the South China Morning Post and was a Finance Contributor to Radio TV Hong Kong. Deak’s Asian operations quickly became the most lucrative division of the group’s global foreign exchange operations.
Much of our success stemmed from being good collaborative partners with clients from a wide spectrum of businesses, including retail, finance, travel and government agencies to name but a few.

An Unexpected Transfer
At age 29 I suddenly found myself swapping the blue skies of the South China Sea for the grey skies and challenges of the London Metal Exchange and FX markets. It was not long after settling into the English way of life that I realized that the entrepreneur within me needed to be unleashed.
At 30, I became the founding Managing Director and principal shareholder of Corporate Foreign Exchange PLC, a business that I grew to over 300 locations over the next decade. Initially, Corporate Foreign Exchange PLC was principally a wholesaler, but we quickly broadened to include white label foreign exchange retail solutions for large branded retailers such as Marks and Spencer, Harvey Nichols, Co-Op travel agencies, and other travel and related businesses throughout the UK, France, and Spain. Working as suppliers of travel money services to Deutsche Bank, Lehman Brothers, ABN AMRO, and importers and exporters throughout Europe further positioned us as leaders in our field.

Then & Today
Much of our success stemmed from being good collaborative partners with clients from a wide spectrum of businesses, including retail, finance, travel and government agencies to name but a few. Working with world-leading businesses was not only a great business opportunity but also an exciting learning opportunity as well.
Another key to our success was getting our message out and being recognized as experts in our field. My work as a commentator on BBC Radio and TV as well as CNN News, Sky News and a number of other print media sources helped us secure that position.
In 2004, I sold my remaining shares and retired from that industry and my life in London and returned to my home in Canada, where I started Mebhin Consultancy.
Today I share my experience, expertise, and passion for building businesses by helping, supporting and working with people to achieve their own unique objectives and dreams.
